Nel Maggio 2007 Desiderio ha trasformato per 30 giorni il CAOS in un’ambiente immersivo, in cui le opere non solo erano esposte e dislocate in modo capillare nello spazio ma ne permeavano l’atmosfera trasformando il luogo in un’esperienza estetica. A Maggio 2017 Desiderio e il CAOS si rincontrano per dare forma ad un nuovo episodio di Beauty Hazard in cui confluiscono da un lato le esperienze fatte da Desiderio negli ultimi 10 anni, dalla Biennale di Venezia alla Biennale a L’Havana, la sua ricerca artistica sempre più pluridisciplinari dell’ambito del video e dall’altro la consolidata identità del CAOS come centro dedicato ai processi artistici improntati al rischio e alla partecipazione.
Beauty Hazard 2017 raccoglie in mostra una selezione di opere del 2007 accompagnate da nuove creazioni visive di grande formato e 5 cortometraggi (la trilogia Beauty Hazard | Confabula Spurio | I Love my Queen e il dittico Bluesky | The Win on the Sky ) con installazioni e sculture giganti. Riflettendo la poetica di Desiderio, la nostra raccoglie linguaggi diversi e gli stessi elementi, gli stessi personaggi e icone, sono semi drammaturgici che vengono presentati in un quadro e ripresi dal video o personificati in sculture: una sorta di divenire continuo che confonde realtà e opere, bidimensionali della tela e volume delle installazioni permeando così l’ambiente nella sua totalità. Con queste opere Desiderio torna ad affrontare il tema della bellezza ma con approccio meno espressionista e violento e più legato al concetto di Kenosis: una parola greca legata alla dinamica dello svuotamento e storicamente connessa alle religioni cristiane e alla mistica.
Questa tensione ad una dimensione altra è insita nel suo stile, un “ realismo magico” che sposa estremo realismo con elementi onirici o illogici generando un corto circuito da cui deriva una sensazione di destabilizzazione, a volte uno scarto ironico o una fascinazione perturbante.
The Beauty Hazard project was born in 2007 from Desiderio’s fascination with the themes of beauty, corruption and the flesh, to which he dedicated a series of works crossing different languages, from painting to video. In May 2007 Desiderio transformed for 30 days the CAOS in an immersive environment, where the works were not only exposed and dislocated in a capillary way in the space but permeated the atmosphere transforming the place in an aesthetic experience. In May 2017 Desiderio and CAOS meet again to give shape to a new episode of Beauty Hazard in which, on the one hand, Desiderio’s experiences in the last 10 years, from the Venice Biennale to the Havana Biennale, his increasingly multidisciplinary artistic research in the field of video and, on the other hand, the consolidated identity of CAOS as a center dedicated to artistic processes marked by risk and participation converge.
Beauty Hazard 2017 collects in the exhibition a selection of works from 2007 accompanied by new visual creations of large format and 5 short films (the trilogy Beauty Hazard | Confabula Spurio | I Love my Queen and the diptych Bluesky | The Win on the Sky ) with installations and giant sculptures. Reflecting Desiderio’s poetics, ours gathers different languages and the same elements, the same characters and icons, are dramaturgical seeds that are presented in a painting and taken up by the video or personified in sculptures: a sort of continuous becoming that confuses reality and works, two-dimensional of the canvas and volume of the installations thus permeating the environment in its totality. With these works, Desiderio returns to the theme of beauty, but with a less expressionistic and violent approach and more linked to the concept of Kenosis: a Greek word linked to the dynamics of emptying and historically connected to Christian religions and mysticism.
This tension to another dimension is inherent in his style, a “magic realism” that marries extreme realism with oneiric or illogical elements generating a short circuit from which derives a sensation of destabilization, sometimes an ironic discard or a perturbing fascination.
